Following the worst year for the number of suicides the Army has seen, word now comes that January 2010 saw a huge jump in the number of Army personnel who took their own lives. This story comes from CNN's Pentagon Producer. The military is still at a loss to explain why but clearly there is a very real problem that is not being addressed among our men and women in uniform. The numbers show that this is far more than an Army issue. All 4 major branches of service (Army, Marines, Air Force, Navy) have seen increased instances of service members taking their own lives. A report to Congress in November of 2009 highlighted the fact that more service members died in 2009 by taking their own lives than from fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. More than ever, our veterans and their families need every one of us to step up and help. |
