Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Nearly 20 percent of U.S. Service Members returning from combat will report symptoms of PTSD or major depression. (RAND)

This statistic does not even address the numbers who have symptoms which go unreported or those whose symptoms do not appear immediately upon their return.  Studies show that it can often take several years for symptoms to appear.  They can be triggered by any number of events.
